For the past 10 years, Beacon has been proud to support the indoor air sampling program at Hill Air Force Base, providing passive sampling technology and accredited laboratory analysis to evaluate vapor intrusion risks in residential communities surrounding the base.

In 2016, the transition was made from collecting 24-hour Summa canister samples to collecting long-duration passive samples to increase certainty that the indoor air data are accurately representing the chronic exposure risks. By collecting samples over 26 days, passive samplers provide time-weighted average concentration data that normalizes the day-to-day indoor air concentration changes resulting from variable weather conditions, heating systems, and occupant activities that bias the findings from short-duration, 24-hour samples. This approach has improved confidence in the results while reducing the need for repeated sampling of the same home.

Since joining the program, Beacon has analyzed more than 3,000 passive indoor air samples, supporting one of the nation’s largest and longest-running indoor air monitoring efforts. This milestone reflects both the scale of the project and Beacon’s commitment to delivering reliable analytical data and responsive support for long-term environmental investigations that protect public health.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the Hill Air Force Base Indoor Air Sampling Program and look forward to maintaining our partnership by continuing to provide high-quality data that helps environmental professionals make informed decisions to protect people’s health with confidence.
